Watch - Irish owners have the most ecstatic reaction you'll see after their horse takes second at the Melbourne Cup
An Irish owner severed up a brilliant reaction after his horse Heartbreak City secured a second place finish in the prestigious Melbourne Cup.
The difference between first and second in the Melbourne Cup is around £1.3m, but you would not know it from Aidan Shiels' reaction in this brilliant video.
New York publican Shiels was keen to hug anyone who would share his joyous moment with him and the Channel 7 TV host even got a slightly aggressive embrace from the ecstatic Irishman.
When it was pointed out that his horse had only finished second in the race behind the victorious Almandin, Shiels made his feelings very evident as he bellowed:
“I don’t care, I don’t care, we would have been happy with last!”
Co-owner Niall Reilly, who is part of the Here For The Craic syndicate, offered up a more balance view of events as he said: "I thought we were going to nick it and the plan we had for the race was exactly the way it was run. We were beaten by a better horse, but I am so proud of our horse, so proud.
"The party is still on, it never ends. We travel wherever the horse goes and it's one big social thing for us. We're not here for the money, we're here for the big stage, the big parties and to have a good time."
Despite his joy on Tuesday, Shiels and Reilly were mindful of the sad story behind Heartbreak City after the death of friend and former owner George Swan last November, three months after the 50-year-old’s cancer diagnosis.
“George Swan, that’s what this horse is all about,” added Shiels. “I think we wouldn’t be here without him.”
