Jockey James Ridley won't want to watch this video ever again.

He was 12 lengths clear after jumping the last in the BJP Insurance Brokers Open Hunters Chase at Newbury today when calamity struck.

The amateur rider appeared to stop riding after the half furlong marker, believing it to be the winning post, allowing Triangular and Ben Godfrey to pounce in the final 50 yards for the victory.

Ballytober got up to be second.

Ironically, Ridley was riding 33/1 shot Lookslikerainted.

The name inspired by a quote from Father Dougal Maguire in the famous Channel Four comedy Father Ted.

Ridley was handed a 28-day ban. At the resulting inquiry, Ridley suggested the half-furlong pole had caused the problem, with the stewards ruling he was guilty of failing to ride out on a horse that would have finished first.

Watch how the closing stages of the race unfolded below:

Lookslikerainted's trainer, Martin Wilesmith, took the reverse in good spirit.

"Listen, obviously I'm a little upset but compared to what happened on Westminster Bridge the other day it is absolutely nothing," said Wilesmith.

"I'm thrilled with the horse and just looking forward to when we can run him again now.

"Nobody has died so we'll just look forwards. James has apologised."
