Walsh gives Fehily full backing
Ruby Walsh has given his full backing to Noel Fehily after stepping into his shoes to excellent effect during the last week.
With Walsh sidelined until the end of January at least due to the double leg-break he suffered at Down Royal earlier this month, a number of top rides for champion trainer Paul Nicholls are going begging.
Fehily has been the man called up so far and has certainly done his job, partnering no less than seven winners for the Ditcheat handler in the last week, including two at Cheltenham's Open meeting.
"He is a capable rider - you just have to look at his strike rate to see that," Walsh told Racing UK.
"He's not had many huge chances, but he's certainly taking them now.
"He's a great rider over a jump and a good tactical rider. He won't let anyone down."
Walsh himself is looking forward to getting back in the saddle as soon as possible.
"I have a frame on my leg and am walking on it and have started physio," he continued.
"I'll be out for at least 12 weeks, and hopefully will be back in the saddle as quickly as possible after that but my recovery will depend on the bone growth."
