Upping the ante
Valseur Lido's impeccable performance in winning the JNWine.com Chase last weekend lit up Down Royal.
While Don Poli ran an abject race, there was little reason to doubt the performance of Silviniaco Conti. The favourite jumped cleanly, had the lead to himself for much of the race; rider Noel Fehily had no complaints.
On his day, Silviniaco Conti is close to the best staying chasers. On the day, he was utterly destroyed by Valseur Lido, which was given a patient ride and seemed to revel in the challenge of passing horses.
Henry De Bromhead was barely able to contain his excitement afterwards: he has a very legitimate Gold Cup horse. Odds of 12/1, given the doubts about Don Cossack, are worth taking.
BET: Valseur Lido to win Gold Cup, 1pt win 12/1.
