There is no denying it: Alpha Des Obeaux - not for the first time - let his backers down on his chase debut last Sunday at Tipperary.

Sent off 9/10, last season's World Hurdle second faded meekly, recalling unhappy memories of his laboured effort at Punchestown at the end of last season.

Those who write him off, though, should be wary. Some of his jumps were really impressive and he was minded by Bryan Cooper when he faded. Mouse Morris is a genius at realising targets and Cheltenham is surely the main one this term.

If he comes to Cheltenham in the same form next March, he could be really hard to beat in the RSA Chase. His odds have gone out to 12/1. Put some money away. BET: Alpha Des Obeaux to win the RSA Chase, 1pt 12/1.
