Lewcas Thunder sprang a 6/1 shock in the opening heat of the Tyrur McGuigan @ Stud Open 575 at Shelbourne on Saturday night.
Otherwise, all the leading contenders safely negotiated their passage into next weekend's semi-finals.
The Andrew Fisher owned Lewcas Thunder broke fast and led all the way when beating Sawdust Terry by a length and a half in 31.40.
Fastest of the round was Irene McConnell's Martinstown Snow in Heat 3 where he hit the front before the opening bend and ran out a comfortable three-length winner from Croom Star in 31.24.
Ante-post favourite Broadstrand Lad survived a scare to win Heat 2.
He was led to the bend by Tyrur Domingo, but the leader then ran wide and Broadstrand grabbed his opportunity to lead.
John Lenihan's dog then stayed on strongly to win by a length and a half from Tyrur Domingo in 31.29.
The final heat saw Leo Dunphy's Ohio Rumble dash clear to the bend. He was challenged up the straight by Coolavanny Shine which didn't keep a straight course and failed by a head to catch Ohio Rumble in 31.25.
