Russell goes 15 clear in title battle

DAVY RUSSELL completed a double at Wexford yesterday to move 15 clear of Barry Geraghty (52-37) in the Jump Jockeys' Championship.

Russell steered Best Served Cold to victory in the featured INH Stallion Farms Owners EBF Novice Hurdle, having earlier won the Vinegar Hill Maiden Hurdle on My Murphy (9/1) .

Geraghty's only success came on favourite Cash And Go in the opener.

Sizing Europe heads 10 possibles for the Champion Chase at Down Royal on Saturday.

Henry de Bromhead's stable star was runner-up to Kauto Star in the three-mile feature 12 months ago before dropping back to two miles to win the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham in March.

Paul Nicholls is looking to The Nightingale, while Neil Mulholland's Midnight Chase, fifth in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, and Colin Tizzard's Hey Big Spender are other hopefuls from Britain.

A quality entry also includes Jessica Harrington's Bostons Angel,Rubi Light, Rare Bob and Coolcashin.

Colm Murphy is to give Big Zeb and Voler La Vedette, their first runs of the new campaign at Navan on Sunday week. Big Zeb has won the Fortria Chase for the past two years and a hat-trick will be on the cards for the 2010 Queen Mother Champion Chase hero.

The Co Wexford trainer has the Lismullen Hurdle in mind for his talented mare Voler La Vedette.
