Ruby Walsh to ride in the Australian Grand National on Sunday
Ruby Walsh will break new ground on Sunday as he teams up with Bashboy in the Australian Grand National at Ballarat racecourse.
The Ciaron Maher-trained 12-year-old has won the two-mile-six-and-a-half-furlong feature for the last two years and with regular rider Steve Pateman ruled out through suspension, Walsh will now team up with the reigning champion.
Maher tweeted: "Confirmation that world class jock Ruby Walsh has been confirmed to ride Bashboy in the Grand National!"
Walsh will be having his first ride in Australia.
Pateman welcomed Walsh's booking and tweeted: "Great for jump Aus racing to have Ruby Walsh ride one of our best steeplechasers of all time in our biggest steeplechase."
