Ruby targets September comeback from latest injury woe

Saturday July 30 2011

Ruby Walsh is on course to return to the saddle in September after suffering crushed vertebrae in a fall at Killarney.

The eight-times champion jump jockey was hurt in a fall on July 12.

"I've had my fair share of serious injuries over the past few years," said Walsh, who is sporting a neck brace.

"They say they come in threes, so hopefully that's it for me. I hope to have the brace off in four to six weeks and then, after a bit of physio, I should be ready to go."

The Co Kildare rider has missed large chunks of the past 18 months having broken his left arm in two places at Aintree's Grand National meeting in 2010 and then suffered a double fracture of his right leg at Down Royal last November.

Another jockey eyeing a comeback is Andrew Lynch, who hopes to return from injury in about 10 days after fracturing his arm and wrist in a fall at Fairyhouse in April.

The jockey damaged his humerus and left wrist in a dramatic tumble from the Ado McGuinness-trained Fearless Falcon.

The setback came a month after he landed a memorable double on the Henry de Bromhead-trained pair Sizing Europe in the Queen Mother Champion Chase and on Sizing Australia in the Cross-Country event at the Cheltenham Festival.

"I've been doing plenty of riding out recently down at Henry's and hope to be back in about 10 days or so," said Lynch. "There is no point rushing back and I'm waiting until everything is right."
