Rooney dabbles in sport of kings

Soccer star Wayne Rooney is to have a racehorse in training at the Cheshire yard owned by his Manchester United team-mate Michael Owen.

Rooney was given a guided tour of Manor House Stables a fortnight ago and returned yesterday to finalise the deal when the cameras from MUTV were filming a documentary about the yard.

Rooney has bought a yearling colt by Bahamian Bounty out of a mare called Amazon Beauty, which cost 63,000gns when it was bought by trainer Tom Dascombe and his bloodstock agent Ed Sackville at Tattersalls in Newmarket in October.
