Priceless start does trick
SKYWALKER PUMA and Priceless Sky retained their unbeaten records in the Irish St Leger with comprehensive victories in the quarter-finals of the Classic.
Once again, Priceless Sky was fastest of the night as Paul Hennessy's charge scorched to the bend and raced to a seven-length victory over Tibetan Skies in 29.44.
Derby winner Skywalker Puma was led to the third bend by Head For Fame but then drove clear to win by three lengths in 29.71. He pulled off a dew claw in the process but Matt O'Donnell has confirmed that the dog will run in the semi-finals.
Sparta Maestro gave supporters a fright when easing up in the final yards of his heat, apparently suffering from cramp, but held on for a two-length margin over Kingo in 29.64.
The other heat saw Declan Byrne's Coolard Chief build a big lead by halfway before holding off Droopys Comedian by half a length in 29.90.
Dolores Ruth's Razldazl Rioga was fastest in the semi-finals of the Select Stakes at Waterford. He hit the front at halfway in the second semi-final and won by two and a half lengths from Milldean Tally and Krelco in 28.56.
In the other heat, Seamus Graham's Eabhas Fantasy hit the front on the first bend and got the better of a protracted battle with Killinan Cash to win by half a length in 28.74. with Urard Gem also qualifying.
Up at Drumbo, the final of the Caledonia Smooth Gold Cup was won by 5/1 chance China Special as he led all the way for a short head victory over Gizmo Classic in 28.71.
