Power trip skirts lethal conditions

Robert Power -- who makes a return trip from his home near Summerhill, Co Meath to Jessica Harrington's yard in Moone, Co Kildare three times a week -- is faring somewhat better than some of his colleagues at present.
"Rather than travelling cross-country, I go the M50 route now and it takes me about an hour and a half. Thankfully the main Trim and Navan roads are clear," he said.
"Jessica had to box up the horses she intended to run this weekend and bring them to the Curragh, where we did two canters up the Polytrack but no schooling.
"At home though the back roads are lethal and I haven't been able to get to a couple of local yards like Michael Cunningham's, where I would normally ride out too," Power added.
"Still we aren't as bad as some places. I was at Barry Geraghty's wedding in Killarney, where it snowed on Monday, and coming back the next morning it took me nearly two hours to get as far as Mallow."
Robert, incidentally, is on the 22-winner mark for what promises to be his most successful season and already features Oscar Time's recent Paddy Power Handicap Chase victory, which represents one of his most valuable successes here.
