Plumpton racing falls victim to the rain

Racing at Plumpton this afternoon has been abandoned due to a waterlogged track.

An inspection was called yesterday afternoon for 8am on raceday, but further significant rain overnight led to a decision to abandon being made earlier.

Clerk of the course Mark Cornford said: "When I got here we'd had 33 millimetres of rain from 8am on Sunday until 5.40am this morning.

"It's eased off a bit but we could possibly get another three millimetres this morning before clearing by midday, but that's too late for us.

"There's water lying all round the bottom bend and in other isolated areas."
