Pallodio to tame Tiger

It's with indecent haste that Channel 4's cameras serve up three Flat races on the all-weather at Lingfield today. After grappling with the form for the four-mile National Hunt Chase, it's disorientating to sift through fields of runners that fly from metal stalls.
Nevertheless, some talented horses contest the Winter Derby (3.35)-- not least Tranquil Tiger, which has been leading Henry Cecil's Dubai World Cup hope, Twice Over, in his build-up to the world's most valuable race a week today.
Tranquil Tiger has taken well to the sands, posting two Listed victories from as many starts. However, he has precious little in hand of Suits Me, despite being slightly better off for beating that rival by a short-head in December.
Stotsford is consistent but he must give weight away all round, and with Fiery Lad failing to cut much ice at the recent Dubai Carnival, a chance is taken on Pallodio. This French challenger has been campaigned with trademark patience by John Hammond, who saddled the five-year-old to win a similar event at Cagnes-Sur-Mer last time. He won't be travelling over to have sand kicked in his face.
