Package gets green light

Madison Du Berlais heads 65 entries for Saturday's Aintree Grand National following the confirmation stage.

A total of 10 horses have been removed which means the likes of the much-touted The Package, Hello Bud and Palypso De Creek are now guaranteed a run. At the bottom of the handicap there are five on 10st 5lb, but official ratings mean the two that would make the field are Flintoff and Abbeybraney.

JJ Mangan's Whinstone Boy and Chief Dan George still need horses to drop out to make the cut.

Three of David Pipe's National hopes had a schooling session yesterday, with Comply Or Die (Timmy Murphy), The Package (Graham Lee) and Piraya (Johnny Farrelly) put through their paces.

Though Murphy was aboard Comply or Die, he has yet to decide whether to stay loyal to the 2008 winner and 2009 runner-up, or switch to The Package. Pipe could also be represented by Madison Du Berlais and Pablo Du Charmil.

Connections of the Gordon Elliott-trained Backstage would love to see drying ground.
