No joy for Coolmore but Nathra franks Minding form
Coolmore failed to land a blow in the Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket, but Aidan O'Brien's prospects of winning the 1,000 Guineas were still enhanced when Nathra paid Classic favourite Minding a fine compliment with a ready victory.
A length-and-a-half winner of yesterday's fillies' Group Three, Nathra (5/4 fav) was the middle leg of a 26/1 treble for John Gosden and Frankie Dettori.
Coolmore faded into fifth under Ryan Moore after cutting out the early running. She and Nathra had been slammed by Minding in the Fillies' Mile at the same course in October, and, while Nathra has now halved in price from 16/1 to 8/1 for the May 1 Classic, Minding also hardened from 9/4 to 2/1 favouritism.
Today, O'Brien sends Waterloo Bridge to Newmarket to contest the Tattersalls Millions Sprint over six furlongs.
Last year's Norfolk winner at Royal Ascot will also be ridden by Moore, while Joseph O'Brien, whom Moore succeeded in the number one berth at Ballydoyle, has confirmed that the team's unbeaten Aspen Colorado will tackle Punchestown's Champion Bumper.
Meanwhile, Horse Racing Ireland has announced four replacement fixtures following recent cancellations.
A new evening card has been scheduled for Dundalk on Monday, and Tramore will hold a jumps spread a week later.
The Waterford venue has also been pencilled in for another afternoon jumps fixture on Wednesday, May 4, while Tipperary has received a supplementary evening Flat programme for Tuesday, May 10.
