Music Pearl sets tone for Lyons treble

RED-hot Ger Lyons dominated the show at Wexford last night with a superb treble thanks to the victories of Music Pearl, Solent Ridge and Sixty Eight Guns.

Music Pearl (5/2) set the ball rolling in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden under Johnny Murtagh, but it was a close call as she snatched the prize in the shadow of the post.

Murtagh was at the top of his game in the Black Point Handicap too, riding a patient race before pouncing to score on Sixty Eight Guns to complete his double and the stable treble.

Dearest led late on, but the top-weight (4/1) grabbed the prize in the last few strides by a neck, with big gamble Whatever It Takes (9/2 in to 10/11f) only third.

Earlier, Danny Benson had ridden 8/1 shot Solent Ridge to victory. David Wachman's Quaintly landed an all-the-way success in the Barrow Race, wearing cheekpieces for the first time.

The Paul Magnier-trained Golan Go (4/1) won the first division of the Owenduff Handicap with Eoin Doyle's 10/1 shot Grand Cru scoring by a head from favourite Sounds of Thunder in the second division.

At Downpatrick, Paul Carberry proved to be a 'super-sub' in the Bar One Racing Handicap Hurdle, replacing the injured Bryan Cooper to win on Magnetic Force.
