Cheltenham Festival winner Ted Veale made a successful return to the Flat when victorious in the irishmirror.ie Race at Bellewstown.
The Tony Martin-trained gelding was last seen finishing eighth as the 7/2 favourite for the Galway Hurdle, but made no mistake here under jockey Steven Clements.
Followers of the 4/6 favourite may have had a fleeting moment of panic approaching the final furlong, but Clements' partner coolly bisected Alhellal and Que Pasa late on to score rather cheekily, with three-quarters of a length the official winning distance.
The versatile six-year-old still holds an entry in the Betfred Ebor at York on Saturday, with a 4lb penalty for this victory taking him to within the cusp of making the cut.
Of a possible Ebor raid, Martin said: "We'll get him home and see how he is in the morning and on Friday morning. I'm not ruling it out. I'm delighted, that was a great performance."
