Magician to do trick for O'Brien

Joseph O'Brien has such a good book of rides at Tipperary that it would be a surprise if he doesn't bag a bunch of winners.

The towering 19-year-old has five tremendous chances for his father Aidan, as well as two outside spins that ought to go very close.

Magician, which he rides for his father in the tipperaryraces.ie maiden, appeals as nap material following an improved effort to be second on the all-weather at Dundalk two weeks ago.

Although far from one of the stable's brighter juvenile prospects, the Galileo colt was beaten only by the useful Mouteab on that occasion.

This seven-furlong, eight-runner affair looks like an inferior heat, so Magician should be able to get off the mark at the third time of asking if he copes with the testing ground.

Well-bred three-year-old Siderius Nuncius is also of note in the following maiden, though Willie McCreery's consistent Howdoyoufindthered is fancied to be too strong for Ballydoyle's Quadriga in the five-furlong juvenile equivalent. Still, the O'Briens could also collect with Beach Of Falesa in the 12-furlong handicap.

Owned by the jockey's mother Anne Marie, this filly has improved throug her first season to win twice in July. She subsequently came up short on two occasions, but has been freshened up since the middle of August and is interesting again now in first-time blinkers.

In the closing nine-furlong handicap, McCreery supplies O'Brien with a lchance on the consistent mare Valbucca, while Paul Flynn's Crystal Wings will relish the testing going in the preceding contest over seven furlongs.

Earlier, champion apprentice-elect Ronan Whelan gets the nod to extend his lead at the top of the table on the reliable Kateeva, which sports head-gear for a first-time in the sprint.
