Lady jane joy for Johnston
Mark Johnston was on the mark with a Group One winner in Germany yesterday and supplemented that success with a 50/1 across-the-card treble at Ascot and Pontefract.
Johnston's Lady Jane Digby gained a valuable first success at the highest level by winning the Grosser Dallmayr-Preis Bayerisches at Munich.
Kirsten Rausing's mare was taking on colts in the Group One event but given a positive ride by Greg Fairley, she fairly bounded clear in the straight.
"It really is wonderful," Johnston said, speaking from Ascot. "She's been running really well and she's a fantastically tough mare."
Bay Willow added another to Johnstone's tally in the 12-furlong handicap at Ascot as he made all under Joe Fanning.
Malthouse earlier made an impressive debut with a near three-length triumph in the opening juvenile maiden.
The Green Desert colt poured on the pressure under Richard Hills in the final furlong to oblige at 7/2.
The Middleham handler was also on the scoresheet at Pontefract as Paul Hanagan got the better of Ryan Moore when making all on his Autumn Riches (5/4) against Entitled in the three-year-old maiden.
