FORMER amateur rider John Mathias has been warned off for a year following a British Horseracing Authority disciplinary inquiry.
Mathias, who is assistant trainer to David Rees, was charged with betting in a race in which he was riding on four occasions in 2011 and 2012.
While Mathias backed his own mount on three of the four occasions, it is still contrary to the rules of racing.
