Promising Irish jockey Jonathan Burke suffered suspected fractured vertebrae while schooling in Cork yesterday and looks certain to miss the Punchestown Festival.
The 20-year-old, first jockey to the Potts family, was schooling horses at his father Liam's base in Mallow when the incident happened and was awaiting results of a CT scan last night.
"I've spoken to Johnny twice today. He was comfortable and in good spirits," Turf Club medical officer Adrian McGoldrick said.
"I suspect he has fractured vertebrae but we won't know until we get CT scan results."
Burke, who finished fifth on Goonyella in last Saturday's Grand National, suffered a compression fracture to his T3 and T4 vertebrae in a fall at Thurles on January 28 which kept him out for four weeks.
