Hannon hands over reins
Having spent several years toying with the idea of retirement, Richard Hannon has finally decided the time will be right to hand over to his son Richard Jnr on New Year's Day.
When Sky Lantern runs in Hong Kong at the start of December, it will signal an end to four decades at the top for the trainer, who won 3,572 British Flat races, three British Classics and was champion trainer for the fifth time this year.
Great horses like Paco Boy, Canford Cliffs, Olympic Glory and Toronado have all flown the flag at Group One level. For the last 10 years Hannon (68) has been assisted by his son and it has been very much a double act, particularly with Hannon Jnr bringing in some big new owners.
