Davy Russell has proven what a quality jockey he is throughout his career, but today’s performance in Ballybrit today onboard Valaxco was something special.

Russell was onboard the horse in today’s opener on Ladies Day at the Galway Festival and looked to be heading for a fall before using all his experience and skill to avoid hitting the grass.

The reaction online was fulsome in praise for the jockey.

“Davy Russell take a bow son. I take my hat off to you sir!,” tweeted James Mackey.

“Davy Russell #unreal #strength,” added Paddy Barrett.
