fingal bay sails home

Fingal Bay's reputation remained intact yesterday after he came home clear in a novices' hurdle at Sandown.

Philip Hobbs had already spoken of the gelding's apparently limitless potential and it was no mean feat to dispose of Nicky Henderson's Simonsig by two and three-quarter lengths.

Fingal Bay, with Richard Johnson aboard, sat behind Sizing Symphony until the home turn, but his every move was shadowed by Simonsig.

But Fingal Bay had stolen a slight advantage running to the last and when a finishing kick did not materialise from Simonsig, he was in full command with the pair streets clear of the rest. Henry de Bromhead's Sizing Symphony finished fifth.
