Famous Milly scores at handsome odds
Famous Milly came good for Irish Independent readers in Listowel's feature nursery yesterday.
Ridden by Rory Cleary for trainer Gavin Cromwell, the filly got up close home at 16/1, having been the headline tip of Johnny Ward in yesterday's paper.
Without a victory in four previous starts, Famous Milly was settled at the rear as Sir Edwin Landseer set the pace along with Catch A Wave.
Youarewonder surged past that duo to take it up in what looked a race-winning move just over a furlong out, but Cleary's mount was flying home down the outside and got up to take the spoils by a neck in the dying strides.
Grecian Divine produced an impressive display to make all in the opening maiden. Sent straight to the front by Pat Smullen, Denis Hogan's 4/1 shot had In Somno for company throughout but drew clear of that rival late on to record a two-length verdict.
Jealika (5/1) powered home under Shane Foley to score in the Feale Handicap in fine style.
