Fallon rides 599/1 treble
Kieren Fallon may not be in line for a seventh jockeys' champion-ship, but he showed why he is still one of the best riders around with a 599/1 hat-trick at Pontefract yesterday.
He struck on his first three rides -- Jade, Itzakindamagic and Yurituni -- and was unlucky not to have had a 100pc record on the card.
Mark Johnston wanted Fallon to partner Licence To Till for him in the Simon Scrope Dalby Screw-Driver Handicap, but as he could not do the weight, he put him on his other runner, Submariner, with Silvestre de Sousa on the winner.
All Fallon's winners were for different trainers and he started the ball rolling on Jade in the EBF Sheila Jackson 50th Birthday Maiden Stakes. Overcoming an unfavourable wide draw in 12, the Ollie Pears-trained Jade (7/1) led early in the straight and had enough left to hold Lowawatha by a neck.
Fallon made it two on Itzakindamagic (4/1) in the Best Horse Racing Sky Channel 432 Fillies' Nursery. As in the first race, he committed his mount just after they turned in for the climb home and the Mark Johnston-trained filly finished two and a half lengths clear of Amistress.
Fallon swept to his treble on Yurituni (14/1) in the totepool A Better Way To Bet Handicap. Giving the three-year-old an aggressive ride with blinkers on for the first time, Fallon again showed his strength and kept the filly up to her work in the final furlong.
