The Irish Grand National is now the biggest race on the Irish National Hunt calendar and it's getting even bigger.

Sponsors Boylesports have pumped huge money into the race with Monday's winner at Fairyhouse pocketing a cool €275k from a total purse of €500k.

"When we took on the race back in 2014 it wasn't even the richest race i Ireland," said Leon Blanche from Boylesports on our Grand National podcast.

"We asked why is this? I believe to be the biggest race in the National Hunt calendar is the Irish Grand National. We increased it €50k over the first two years and when we sat down to re-negotiate this contract over three years we were certain that this has to be the most valuable race in Ireland.

"And to be totally fair to HRI and Fairyhouse were unbelievably supportive. The three parties cam together and we decided to go for a nice big round number of €500."
