English racegoers left in a muddle

The fact that Channel 4 Racing's coverage today pivots on four all-weather races underlines just how muddled the British programme is at a time when a captive audience is lazing about over the Easter break. There is nothing like the Irish Grand National -- which will hopefully survive the deluge -- to draw attention to the sport.
While Fairyhouse on Monday provides a strong focal point, English racegoers have no such choice. Fakenham, anyone? Or Redcar, perhaps?
And the fact that this issue has been raised more than once in this space underlines just how much work is required to make sense of the English fixture list. It is beyond a joke.
