El Salvador sees off returning Missunited

Missunited failed to keep pace on her return at Limerick

Missunited could only finish last of three runners upon her return to action at Limerick as El Salvador claimed the Summer Twilight Nights Race for a second successive year.

Last year's Galway Hurdle heroine was all the rage for the extended mile-and-a-half contest as the 4/9 favourite, making her first appearance since finishing a superb third in the Group One Prix Royal-Oak at Longchamp in late October.

Seamie Heffernan let the Mick Winters-trained seven-year-old stride on from halfway, but Aidan O'Brien's El Salvador loomed up ominously at the top of the home straight and soon stretched away in the hands of the trainer's son, Joseph.

Cosmic Cannonball came through to challenge the leader, but El Salvador (11/4) had enough in the tank to claim victory by a length and a half.

Missunited was another four and a quarter lengths away in third, but not disgraced.
