Do the Double

Wayne Bailey

RACING

ONLY five go to post for the J2O Pear Maiden Stakes at Chester (3.40) and, if running to form, My Inspiration should have a couple of pounds in hand on her rivals, priced around 11/8.

The daughter of Invincible Spirit shaped well when third in her first race since moving to Tim Easterby's yard from William Haggas and she'll appreciate the step back down in distance to six furlongs.

The Haggas-trained Telmeyd is the one most likely to follow her home.

SOCCER

WHILE the results of international friendlies are not too important in the grand scheme of things, Ireland haven't won a match since beating Latvia in November in what was Martin O'Neill's first day in the job.

They could do with a victory to give everyone a lift, but I doubt that win will come tonight in London against an Italy side which are favourites to top their Word Cup group ahead of Uruguay and England.

It's unpatriotic, but backing Italy to win at Craven Cottage seems the sensible option at 8/15.
