FROM the Irish Amateur Close champion of 1990 to the 2011 holder of the title came a heartfelt congratulations.
Darren Clarke, winner of the Close 21 years ago, singled out recently crowned champion Paul Cutler for great praise following the amateur's great display in shooting six-under-par in this Irish Open.
Cutler didn't look out of place among the pros over the first two days and Clarke said: "Look at Paul Cutler's name up there on the leaderboard.
"It's wonderful to see that we've got somebody as good as him, and indeed other young amateurs coming through in Irish golf as well, who are going to follow Rory (McIlroy) and keep Irish golf up there."
