Cross-channel meetings face weather wipeout

FREEZING weather continues to cast serious doubt over many of the meetings scheduled for Britain over the next couple of days. The meeting due to be held at Musselburgh today has been abandoned, while Chepstow and Lingfield are subject to morning inspections.

Tomorrow's high-profile fixtures at Haydock and Ascot, where Sprinter Sacre is due to finalise his Queen Mother Champion Chase preparations in the Victor Chandler Chase, are also in doubt.

Both venues have been hit by temperatures as low as minus four degrees and snow is forecast to hit both regions today. Officials will inspect Haydock at 8.30 this morning, while Ascot's check will take place at 4.30.

Towcester's meeting on Sunday has already been abandoned, leaving Kempton as the only card still standing.
