There can't be a punter in the world who has experienced such contrasting fortunes in the last 24 hours.

Yesterday at Cheltenham, one bookie paid out a £400,000 (€460,000) bet on Altior, who won the Arkle impressively at short odds of 1/4. Today, Douvan was meant to be a similar banker in the Queen Mother Champion Chase, going off at just 2/9.

However, disaster struck for the Ruby Walsh and Willie Mullins horse, with Douvan finishing seventh after a disappointing run. Many punters were left licking their wounds after the shock, but none more so than the yesterday's big winner.

Before the race, BBC Five Live reported that the bookie who paid out on Altior, took a £500,000 bet from the same person on Douvan.

Given that the large wager on Altior yielded just £100,000 in profit, his gamble on the two big favourites of the first two days didn't pay off at all.
