Condon class guides Flare home

The Irish Independent's Davy Condon cruised to success on Flaxen Flare to win the Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham yesterday.

Gordon Elliott's charge travelled well throughout. He went for home from the final turn and Condon guided him expertly over the last for a memorable 25/1 success.

"When we bought him we thought he would be a horse for the big days, and if he never wins again, he doesn't owe us anything," Elliott said afterwards.

Condon's mount was best of a 24-strong field and beat off two Paul Nicholls-trained runners.

Caid Du Berlais (20/1) took second after a late charge, overtaking stablemate Ptit Zig (22/1) on the run-in.
