Cape fails to sparkle

Aidan O'Brien's Cape Blanco could finish only fourth as Christophe Soumillon and Planteur took top honours in the Prix Ganay at Longchamp.
The former had run an excellent race to place fourth in last month's Dubai World Cup and was sent straight to the head of affairs by Jamie Spencer in this 10-furlong Group One affair.
Soumillon settled the Elie Lellouche-trained Planteur a few places back, tight to the rail, and it appeared he might fail to get a run early in the home straight.
But once the gap came, he quickened up in impressive style to to take the lead heading inside the final furlong and held off the mare Sarafina to record a comfortable victory.
