Bad break for Barry

Shay Barry fractured his pelvis in a fall at Killarney last Thursday - despite having been sent home from Tralee hospital just hours afterwards.

Barry was partnering Hairy Molly in the Owens McCarthy Claims Specialists Handicap Chase when the 10-year-old suffered a horrendous last-fence fall, which left Hairy Molly fatally injured.

The jockey was sent home from hospital at 2am the following morning, despite complaining of severe pain in his lower abdomen.

But having sought a second opinion, a fracture has been revealed.

Turf Club medical officer, Dr Adrian McGoldrick, said: "I was very concerned, given the severity of the fall.

"He has a fracture but we will not know how long he will be out for until an MRI scan."
