Accordello in a hurry

While the fog ruled out the big card at Limerick, which has been refixed for next Saturday, a good sized crowd turned up at Shelbourne to savour the second-round action in the John J Casey Open 575.

The ground was rated at .40s slow for the 575 yards and the honour of being fastest qualifier went to the Lar Kinsella-trained Accordello. A little disappointing in recent outings, last season's Ladbrokes 600 winner was prominent throughout and the strong stayer overhauled pace-setting Ardera Power close to home for a length margin in 31.60.

This clock was only a hundredth of a second faster than the Peter Cronin-trained Whatsupjack, which won heat two in 31.61. Three One Three led early but Whatsupjack took it up on the bend and then contained the persistent Three One Three by a length.

Less than a length back on the clock was Ian Reilly's Deanridge Fury as he led all the way in the final heat to beat strong challenging Rough Robinho by half a length in 31.65.

The other heat saw Sean Mulcahy's super stayer Corporate Attack come from well off the pace to snatch a late length success over Hee Haws Montana in 32.01.
