Hartlepool's Trevor Carson to undergo shoulder surgery
Hartlepool goalkeeper Trevor Carson looks set to miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.
The Northern Ireland international has been playing through the pain for Pools in recent weeks, and after visiting a specialist in Liverpool, Carson has been told he requires surgery on the problem.
"Trevor will have surgery two weeks today and could be out for up to six months afterwards," physio Ian Gallagher told the club's official website.
"It's an exploratory operation where the surgeon will go in, find the damage and then repair what he sees but it's very likely he will now be missing for the rest of the season.
"Credit to Trevor, he's been putting up with a lot of pain for quite some time now and he's been determined to play in every game but it's got to the point where we've had to do something about it.
"He's such a professional and shown his commitment by getting out there and playing when others wouldn't have, but enough is enough now and this surgery is the only option."
Adam Bartlett, who came in for Carson at Accrington on Monday, will keep his place against Grimsby on Saturday.
