With just 24 greyhounds remaining in the Classic, Clares Rocket is still the strong favourite to win the BoyleSports Irish Derby at Shelbourne.

He is very solid at the front of the betting and is a best-priced 9-4 favourite with the firms with his kennel companion Sonic next at 5-1.

The only other dog priced in single figures is the PJ Fahy-owned Tyrur Harold which is an 8-1 chance to take the title.

There have been no reports of any doubts surrounding the Derby contenders and full fields are anticipated on Saturday.

Meanwhile, another Graham Holland-trained runner Slippery Louise is the 7-1 favourite to win the BoyleSports Derby Plate with Fast Fit Alex and Kilgraney Denver at 8-1. This looks like a pretty open competition.

Meanwhile, owners and trainers are reminded that entries close on Monday next for the Red Mills/Frightful Flash Unraced Sales Stakes. Dogs eligible for the competitions must be entered in order to participate. The stakes commence on Thursday next.

Tonight's card at Shelbourne will be about graders but don't be surprised if a few future stars show their paces.

A young bitch that could go on to much bigger things is Pat Buckley's Pennylane Masara (9.00) which can avenge her defeat by Equally Fast in last week's semi-final of the A3/4 event.

Last week Masara was beaten by half a length but the trap draw should see her reverse the placings this time.
