Rocket shortens in Derby betting
Leading Irish tracker Clares Rocket gave an indication of his huge talent when making a first public British appearance in a trial around Towcester on Saturday morning.
Already a 16/1 favourite for the English Derby with the firms, his price was slashed in places to 12/1 after an impressive first sighting of the Derby venue. He maintained a middle course for most of the way and the time of 29.32 on a track rated at 0.10 slow was most impressive.
In other trials, his kennel companions Drive On Tipp and Impressive Guy also moved well when clocking 29.45 and 29.47 respectively.
The top event on Saturday was the first round of the quickPark.ie Limerick Oaks and the star performer was Clares Rocket's kennel companion Ardrahan Zindi as she flew around in 28.22. She led until passed down the back by Ballymac Belle but came battling back to lead at the third bend and went on to win by four lengths from Ballymac Sarahjo in 28.22.
The other heat winners were Baileys Pringles in 28.94, Ballymac Scala in 28.46 and Gilti Dazl in 28.54.
At Curraheen Park the National Sales Unraced Stake got underway and the fastest winner was the Owen McKenna-trained Premier Frankel as he led all the way for a two-length verdict over Edencurra Showy in 28.81.
The other two heats formed a double for Lorraine Moore and her litter by Kinloch Brae and Zaracova.
Jet Supreme won the first heat in 28.92 while litter sister Race On Elsa won in 29.22.
