The Comerford Cakes Open 525 is regarded by many as the outstanding juvenile event in terms of being a guide to the following year's classics.

It is doubtful if we have ever had a running of greater quality than this year's and the Boylesports betting has eight of the remaining 24 runners priced in single figures.

If pressed to nominate a banker in tonight's heats at Shelbourne, it would be the Pat Norris-trained Bull Run Bolt (9.27), which has an ideal opportunity to produce a big run in the second heat and can lead home Tyrur Hugo and Treblesforshow.

Race of the round is the first heat, where Good News may have to give best to Pat Buckley's Droopys Wilbury (9.12). Owen McKenna's Hot Trend (9.42) produced a scorching run when clocking 28.10 last week and he can lead all the way in Heat 3, while McKenna's Viber and Ballymac Tomasso may struggle to beat Peter Cronin's Swithins Brae (9.57).

Flying bitches Holycross Leah and Sidarian Pearl will meet for the tenth time this year in the second heat of the Gain Christmas Oaks.

Gerry Melia's Holycross Leah (8.27) may come out on top while others worth an interest are Ballymac Sarahjo (8.12), Ballinakil Clare (8.42) and Airmount Tess (8.57).
