The Boylesports Irish Derby first round finished with a shock at Shelbourne Park on Saturday as short-priced ante-post favourite Clares Rocket failed to land the odds of 1/6 in Heat 21.

His problems developed early as he was moderately away and was then crowded and bumped. Pat Buckley's 10/1 outsider Trade Freddie shot off in front and he led from Mountaylor Queen and Clares Rocket, which moved third on the bend.

Those who have supported Clares Rocket need not despair, though, as he remains the dog to beat.

For Buckley it was a great night as he had two other impressive winners in Lenson Rocky, which got up late to win in 29.98, while kennel star Droopys Roddick was most impressive as he won by six lengths from Bull Marker in 29.62.

Despite Clares Rocket's defeat it was still a huge night for trainer Graham Holland, as he had a four-timer via Milldean Puma in 29.69, Skywalker Rory in 29.65, Slippery Thelma in 30.11 and the brilliant Ballydoyle Honey in a best of the round 29.49.

Other winners were Farloe Joey in 29.75, Blue Cafu in 29.94, Shaneboy Freddie in 29.96, Doctor Zhivago in 29.78 and Mucho Macho Man in 29.73.
