Following the closure of entries on Saturday, the number of entrants for the Boylesports Irish Derby stands at 124 subject to withdrawals or additions following examinations this morning.
All the big names are in there with Graham Holland having a powerful 16-strong team which is headed by the favourite Clares Rocket. Sponsors Boylesports have him as a very hot 5/1 market leader but other firms are actually offering as low as 4/1.
The draw for the first round will be made in the Oaks Suite at Shelbourne this morning at 11am and if you can't make it to the track you can follow live streaming on: www.igb.ie/derby-draw-feed
The likelihood at the moment is that there will be 20 or 21 heats with the last twelve comprising the Saturday card and the remainder being run on Thursday.
Holland gave a preview of the strength of his team when he brought eight runners to the Shelbourne meeting and returned home with seven winners and a runner-up.
Star of his team was the lightly-raced Marion Moloney owned Sonic which came from some lengths back to win most impressively from Joe The Pro in 28.60. This is a dog that could perform very well in the classic. His other winners were Skywalker Pearl, Slippery Thelma, Slippery Louise, Vancouver Colin, Bull Marker and Sidarian Pearl.
