Two classic competitions dominate the greyhound scene today with the second round of the Gain Corn Cuchulainn at Harold's Cross while the first session of the Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup will be staged at Dundalk.

There have been two withdrawals from the Corn Cuchulainn which means that 16 greyhounds will compete for the 12 semi-final places on offer.

Disappointment of the first round was the below-par effort from the UK raider Fizzypop Buddy but he is reported to be in better form and will contest Heat 3 from which Miniconjou has been withdrawn. Fizzypop should qualify but Milldean Puma (9.40) can lead home Jo Jo Fantasy.

Droopys Solar is the absentee from Heat 1 and here Ger Kiely's Airmount Tess (9.10) is nominated to lead home fastest first round winner Ardrahan Zindi. Maurice Heffernan's Country Legend (9.25) can hold off the challenges of Beaming Coyote and Priceless Lassie in Heat 2.

Our top sprinters will be based at Dundalk for the next five weekends and our leading two-bender Ballymac Bigmike (9.05) can scorch to victory in the opening heat.

He is a confident choice to win out this classic and he should win Heat 1 at his ease.

One of his major rivals for outright honours can be Ian Reilly's Hee Haws Sheriff (9.20) and he can bounce back from his lay-off to defeat defending champion Slipalong Hero and Create A Star in Heat 2.

Others worth noting are Ballymac Sexton (9.35) and Hillcroft Hero (10.05).
