Beaten Rocket in horror derby semi-final
The BoyleSports Irish Derby picture took on a new complexion on Saturday night at Shelbourne when Clares Rocket suffered his first defeat in the quarter-final heats and then a truly devilish draw threw most of the fancied contenders into opposition in next weekend's second semi-final.
Clares Rocket didn't fly out in the final heat and he raced to the bend with Good News and Buckos Dream. The favourite emerged only third into the back, but he flew up to Buckos Dream at the third bend.
He was cut off and lost a length, but then hit the front on the run-in only to be beaten a neck by the Pat Guilfoyle trained Good News in 29.59, with Buckos Dream a length third.
Fastest heat winner was the Johnny O'Sullivan trained Native Chimes, as he flew past Ballymac Sarahjo on the run to the bend and was chased down the back by Kilgraney Ace. The latter ran on well, but Native Chimes won by three-and-a-half lengths in a best of the night 29.44.
Graham Holland's Sonic was an impressive eight-and-a-half length winner of Heat 1, where he just led up and rode a bump on the bend before going clear to win from Jaytee Barracuda in 29.61.
The Holland-trained Black Farren beat the favourite Tyrur Harold in Heat 3. He took over from Milldean Skip and Tyrur Harold entering the third bend and won by two lengths in 29.68.
