It was a photo that was as memorable to some people as his on-course exploits and the snapshot is still being hailed as the perfect example of marital bliss.
Shane Lowry surprised golf fans when he tweeted this picture of himself and his new bride Wendy after the pair got married in New York right after The Masters. The affable Offaly golfer had previously been coy when asked by Paul Kimmage in the Sunday Independent when he planned on tying the knot with his fiancée.
Lowry explained to Greg Allen on RTE Radio One's Drivetime show why he decided to get married in America rather than back in Ireland.
"We had planned on going to New York," he said when asked if it was an impromptu decision.
"We had a venue booked for the end of the year but it was getting more and more out of hand.
"We went to New York last year and fell in love with it and we said we would go back there."
Lowry has been in good form recently, shooting low scores in the opening two rounds of both The Masters and the Players Championship to move into contention ahead of the weekend. However, in both tournaments, he disappointed on Saturday and Sunday to finish well back from the winner.
Despite his weekend inconsistency, Lowry remains confident that he is close to another big win.
"I've no idea," Lowry answered when asked why he hasn't been able to maintain his form in the closing rounds.
"Historically I have averaged better on the weekends and I have had to play my way into tournaments. I need to learn to keep my foot on the pedal.
"I'm not that far away."
