When Pádraig Harrington raised the Honda Classic trophy to the Florida sky last year, he wasn't just celebrating another milestone in his great career, but showcasing Ireland to the world yet again.
Like so many other famous golfing trophies, the sparkling prize he held aloft was produced by Waterford Crystal in Ireland, which has also weathered the economic storm to remain one of Ireland's most iconic and best-loved brands.
Next weekend, the trophy that started Waterford Crystal's long association with golf will be up for grabs for the 60th playing of the Waterford Senior Scratch Cup.
While there is an upper handicap limit of four, the event has already attracted a strong entry, with the likes of local hope Eanna Griffin, the in-form Pierse brothers, Jack and Robbie, as well as interprovincials Geoff Lenehan and Gary Collins hoping to follow in the footsteps of former winners such as Joe Carr, Philip Walton or three-time winner John McHenry.
Entry is €40. Phone 051 876748 or email email@example.com to enter.
