Rory McIlroy had the gathering media in stitches with a simple answer when he was asked if this week's Cadillac Championship should have been moved from the Donald Trump-owned Blue Monster at Trump National Doral.

McIlroy is looking for his first Tour win of the year and in a pre-tournament press conference he was asked by one reporter if another course should have been considered in light of recent remarks by Trump which may have been deemed racist by some.

But McIlroy had a quick response, stating: "I am not American."

The Irishman added: "I really thought I knew what politics were, until I started to watch some of these presidential debates.

"Not saying that the political system is Northern Ireland is too strong at the moment either,… it’s shocking.

"I can’t vote and if I were to vote I’m not sure I would want to vote."
