Tom Watson selects 'scouting party' for Euro Mission

US Ryder Cup captain Tom Watson will lead a reconnaissance mission to Gleneagles next weekend, although his scouting party could be small. Only "four or five players" have accepted his invitation so far.
It is unclear whether Tiger Woods was on the list but even if he was, Watson is not expecting the 14-time Major winner to turn up. Woods has only recently returned from a three-month absence after back surgery and is way down the qualification standings.
"The Europeans have an advantage (at Gleneagles)," Watson said. "Some players have played it in competition four, five, six times, maybe 12 times."
Woods missed the cut on his return to competition at last week's Quicken Loan National and speculation has intensified about his participation at Gleneagles.
"I hope to get together with him there (at Hoylake) and tell him my feelings about him (playing in the Ryder Cup) direct," Watson said.
"If he's playing well and healthy, he's on the team. He's way down on points now, but who wouldn't pick Tiger Woods to be on a Ryder Cup team?" (© Daily Telegraph)
